Since 1931, the crossbow (refering to Wilhelm Tell), which was registered as a trademark with the Federal Office of Intellectual Property during the global economic crisis, has been used in Switzerland to promote the preference of domestic goods over foreign products and thus promote Swiss industry – here memorably supplemented by a bee on a full honeycomb, symbolising the diligence of Swiss workers and the conscientiousness of the domestic manufacturers. However, the crossbow has only actually served as an official seal of quality since 1983, before the original «Central Office for the Swiss Mark of Origin» was renamed «Swiss Label» in 1989. Today, around 300 companies are authorised to advertise their products with the crossbow.
Georges Pierrehumbert is known more as an illustrator than a poster designer, if at all (in this context, thanks to Mr. Rolf Thalmann). Rare.
