One of the most sought-after Swiss ski posters ever – created by Alex Walter Diggelmann for the Gstaad Tourist Association, founded in 1906, which, it may be assumed, undoubtedly predeterminated the precise motif, as unusual as it was: From 1934, those guests in the Saanenmöser ski area (at the pass between Zweisimmen and Saanen) who found the ascent to the Hornberg on skins too arduous were provided with lorries specially converted into caterpillar cars (which replaced the horse-drawn sleighs) – a service so costly that association rushed to invest in a modern toboggan cable car (the so-called Funi), which was then put into operation from 1937. This construction consisted of two sledges attached to a wire rope; while one travelled downhill, it pulled the other uphill, assisted by a motor.
