Original Vintage Travel Poster, designed in 1932 by Alex Walter Diggelmann on behalf of the Interlaken tourist office to attract visitors to the picturesque little town between Lakes Thun and Brienz to take a trip to the Schynige Platte, a mountain flank above Wilderswil in the Bernese Oberland, 2000 meters above sea level, which has a slate cliff that reflects the sunlight intensely when wet; access is via the Schynige Platte Railway, a cogwheel railroad built in 1893, which overcomes a difference in altitude of over 1400 meters over a distance of around 7,3 kilometers; those who reach the top are rewarded with a fabulous view of the gleaming white triumvirate of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
Flora lovers will also get their money’s worth: the entrance to the Botanical Alpine Garden is located right next to the mountain station. Over the course of the summer, the approximately one-kilometre-long paths lead visitors past around 600 species, which corresponds to around two-thirds of the entire Swiss Alpine flora.
