Original advertising display, designed in 1930 by Carl Moos – originally created for the Swiss Air Traffic Union (cf. Otto Baumberger’s design, see link below); the Fokker VIIb shown here with the registration number CH-161 was put into service by Balair in February and destroyed in October of the same year after colliding with a tall chimney in foggy conditions.
Swissair then used the motif after its founding in March 1931 – probably due to time pressure – with a new text for its own purposes. The cubist-inspired design was apparently so well received that the new airline had an actual poster printed shortly afterwards (probably in 1932, or 1933 at the latest) – without being bothered by the fact that the Fokker depicted not only never flew for Swissair, but also no longer existed as a result of the collision.
