Impressive Original Travel Poster featuring the spectacular view of the equally spectacular arched bridge over the Muota Gorge near Schwyz, which is located directly below the valley station of the cable car to the car-free mountain village of Stoos. The world’s steepest funicular railroad, which opened in 1933, leads to a high plateau on the Fronalpstock, where the vacation resort is located at over 1300 meters above sea level.
The designer of the poster is not known – maybe Otto Ernst, who did not sign it because he had a contract with the Trüb printing company in Aarau, while this poster was printed by Orell Füssli in Zurich…? In any case, the breathtaking situation is superbly depicted and further enhanced by the choice of strong contrasts between the dark gorge and the glowing peaks.
After more than eight decades of operation, the railroad was replaced by the newly built funicular at the end of 2017.
