Original Vintage Poster designed by Bernese commercial artist Ernst Ruprecht announcing the 1950 Swiss Grand Prix. The GP for automobiles was the fourth race in the Formula 1 World Championship, which was held for the first time that year, and took place on the Bremgarten circuit. Giuseppe Farina won in an Alfa Romeo. The Swiss Grand Prix for motorcycles was also part of the World Championship between 1949 and 1954.
Ruprecht designed his first racing poster in 1931 (see below), which was so well received that he remained true to his original approach for decades: a stylized driver or drivers in the center, one or two dominant colors, complemented by a few lines suggesting speed. No distractions, simple and effective, so good. That good, in fact, that this design, created in 1947, was used – certainly also for cost reasons – in two different color schemes until and including 1953.
This poster is the small version, which was mainly displayed in ticket offices and kiosks with limited space.
