A magnificent – and extremely rare – Original Swissair Poster announcing in 1951 abroad the commissioning of the DC-6B aircraft that had just been ordered.
In the years following the Second World War, Swissair had great difficulty getting back on its feet – partly because a culture war was raging in the management bodies: those responsible were divided as to whether Swissair should take the risk and buy the DC-6B to fly regularly to the United States or not. However, the Swiss government considered direct flights across the North Atlantic to be so important for local industrial companies and their economic relationships that it quickly bought two DC-6Bs and leased them to Swissair. It was the beginning of an unprecedented rise.
