The second Australia poster – which is considerably rarer than the first, which shows the Coral Reef (part of the Great Barrier Reef) and which Swissair had printed in 1971, see below – from the famous series of photos taken from an airplane. Printed in 1979, it already bears the new lettering, which replaced the signet created in 1953 by Rudolf Bircher, as Armin Baltensweiler, Swissair’s CEO at the time, wanted to bring a breath of fresh air to Swissair’s 50th anniversary in 1981. Designed by Emil Schulthess and Hans Frei using a photograph taken by Georg Gerster above New South Wales.
