An Original Vintage Poster issued by the Swiss Federal Railways in 1924 to impress foreign audiences with the recently completed electrification of the Gotthard Line – a project that would soon be regarded as exemplary abroad.
The SBB had the German and English versions printed in Zurich, but this French version (certainly because the total print run exceeded the capacity of a single printing house) in Neuchâtel – that is, using different stones and in a slightly smaller format, which explains the minor differences in ink application and size (see also below).
Here, Daniele Buzzi (himself an engineer who worked on hydroelectric projects, among other things) depicts the Be 4/6 locomotive as it crosses the Kerstelenbach Bridge in the canton of Uri. A second design on the same topic and by Buzzi as well shows the CE 6/8 locomotive – also known as the «Crocodile» – in the Leventina.
