A very inviting and hardly ever available original poster, designed by Hans Bindschedler (of whom only a few posters are known and who seems to have worked for the Lintas advertising agency at times) after a photograph taken by Andermatt photographer Jean Haemisegger at the end of 1937.
The ski lift on the Nätschen to Gütsch (the first in Uri and only the third in Switzerland) opened in December 1937, which meant that Andermatt – then a stronghold of Nordic and military skiing – was now also ready for alpine winter sports; however, the restaurant at the valley station soon burned down, and then the war broke out. The poster could therefore have actually been printed in 1938, but more likely after 1945, as it ‘s rather unlikely that such a small ski resort would have launched an advertising campaign with comparatively expensive posters after such a setback and in those difficult years.
A magnificently preserved poster that is highly sought after in view of the immense investments made by Samih Sawiris’ Orascom and the corresponding upgrading of Andermatt.
