Built between 1896 and 1900 on the shores of Lake Zurich on General-Guisan-Quai, Palais Henneberg served as a residence and gallery for silk merchant Gustav Henneberg before the magnificent building was converted into a Kursaal and casino following the death of the owner in 1918. However, Zwinglian Zurich was not Monte Carlo, and the crises of the 1930s did the rest, with the result that Migros used the building for its club school from 1947. Demolition work began in 1969 to make way for the new headquarters of IBM Switzerland.
Oscar Zimmermann (1874 – 1966) devoted most of his work to Zurich cityscapes and buildings, as can be seen from the barely more than ten posters he left behind, all of which are rare today.
