Although the difference between first and economy class was much smaller than it is today, the prices themselves were astronomical in comparison: the 2150 Swiss francs charged for «tourist class» would be equivalent to around CHF 10’100 today. Or, more meaningful: the monthly wage for employees in the early 1950s was between 700 and 800 francs. So for the average earner, such a flight was simply unaffordable.
