Pontresina | Diavolezza

Original Swiss Winter Travel Poster by Martin Peikert printed at the end of the 50s, advertising the Diavolezza cable car that began operating in Pontresina in the Engadine region at the end of 1956. The valley station of this 3.5 km long aerial tramway is located directly on the Rhaetian Railway and – with access to the almost 3000 m high Diavolezza, a col above the Val Bernina – has opened up an outstanding viewpoint of the Bernina Group with the highest peaks in the Eastern Alps, a 10 km long secured descent over the Morteratsch Glacier and, of course, the Diavolezza mountain lodge.

This is one of the very last Original Swiss Travel Posters printed as a lithograph; most printing companies began to replace their lithographic presses with offset printing machines in the mid-1950s. This method was quicker and cheaper, without a doubt – but the colors, but the colors… No comparison in terms of luminosity, durability and appearance. The main reason why Peikert stopped to create Tourism Posters.
