Some Aspects of Le Corbusier’s Work \u2013\u00a0
Invitation to Four Events<\/strong><\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The works shown in the present exhibition, on display until 13 July (see Invitation),<\/a> testify to Le Corbusier\u2019s more than sixty-year-long artistic productivity and furthermore give an impression of his continuing development as both an artist and an architect.<\/p>

In light of the significance of Le Corbusier\u2019s artistic oeuvre \u2013 he referred to it as \u201cthe key\u201d to his work as a whole \u2013 PLACART is offering four events at which Tomas Rabara, the gallery owner, will be discussing different aspects of LCs virtually unfathomable work.<\/p>

The talks, held in German, will begin at 19 o\u2019clock, followed by a short discussion. Seating is limited, so we ask for a short e-mail notification if you would like to attend (see below).<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\t\t

The Artist Book, created 1947-1953, offers a look into LCs pantheistic world view and thereby also into the role of the architect. The fact that he wanted the 19 full-page motifs in the Po\u00e8me<\/em> hung in the form of a multi-sectional cross (see above illustration), lends the portfolio an added religious connotation.<\/p>

Le Corbusier at first reacted with reservation to Sigfried Giedion\u2019s suggestion to start out with a presentation in Zurich of the whole breadth of his work \u2013 in other words, the works of the architect along with those of the artist. After finally agreeing to the plan and even looking forward to it with a certain amount of euphoria, he was deeply disappointed by the lukewarm resonance.<\/p>

How Le Corbusier Revived the Art of Tapestry with his Nomadic Murals<\/em> <\/strong><\/h3>

Le Corbusier had felt flattered when, in 1935, he was asked to help breathe new life into the dying art-form of tapestry together with Picasso, Braque, L\u00e9ger, and others. After the war, he once again took up the idea of wall tapestry and developed the concept of the \u201cNomadic Murals,\u201d or mobile walls. The notion finally engendered more than thirty motifs.<\/p>

Le Corbusier\u2019s Influence on Cassandre, the Master of the French Poster<\/strong><\/h3>

Even today, the clearly structured posters from the 1920s in Paris, created by Adolphe Mouron, known as Cassandre, are considered landmarks. Cassandre was especially influenced by his reading of L\u2019Esprit Nouveau<\/em>, the journal co-published by Le Corbusier in which he propagated the application of his puristic principles.
